Apple LGD Is Rumored to Begin Development of 12.9-inch OLED Panel for iPad

In order to provide users with an OLED panel iPad with higher durability and a brighter screen, Sinocrystal understands that LG Display is currently developing the OLED panel for Apple's 12.9-inch iPad.

Earlier, there were rumors that Samsung Display, another South Korean display manufacturer, gave up cooperating with Apple to develop the 10.86-inch OLED iPad, which gave LG Display the opportunity to enter the OLED market with Samsung Display.

As for why Samsung Display will give up working with Apple to develop a 10.86-inch OLED iPad? According to previous reports, this is because Apple and Samsung Display have been unable to reach a consensus on the development of the OLED double-layer light-emitting structure, so the cooperative development plan was suspended.

Sinocrystal's survey of LG Display predicts that it will start producing OLED iPad panels at some point between the end of 2023 and 2024.

In order to be able to meet the needs of the 12.9-inch OLED iPad, LGD is developing OLED double-layer light-emitting structure technology, which has two RGB emission layers and includes LTPO TFT technology. Through the double-layer light-emitting structure technology and the two-layer emission layer, the brightness of the OLED panel will be increased by two times, and the service life of the panel will be extended by four times. The double-layer light-emitting structure mainly reinforces the deficiencies of RGB OLED in brightness, color decay and other issues, but such a design method may increase the cost of OLED panels.

For the Sinocrystal survey, consumers often hope that their products (tablets and notebooks) can last longer than smart phone panels, so they need to develop more durable panels.

At present, Sinocrystal already has the double-layer technology of OLED panel, which is to stack a blue layer on the red, green and blue emission layer.
