According to Korean media ddaily report, the U.S. company Corning said on June 21, the third quarter will be a small increase in display panel glass substrate prices. Glass panels are the main raw material for LCD Display and OLED Display.
Corning is the top share of the relevant field of business. In the second quarter, there was also a price increase.
Corning explained: "Price adjustment is due to the continued shortage of glass supply, logistics, energy raw materials and other costs have increased. This move was a measure taken under the pressure of inflation that brought an overall impact to the display industry."
Corning believes that the shortage of glass supply will continue for some time. Corning recently completed a 10.5 generation glass substrate plant in Wuhan, China, to expand its production capacity.
Last December, the Japanese plant NEG (Nippon Electric Glass) power outage also played a role in this incident. NEG is the third largest company after Corning and Japan Asahi Glass (Asahi glass). Affected by the power outage, the supply of glass substrates decreased by 2.5% in the first quarter of this year.
With the price of Corning's glass substrates increasing, it will be more difficult to reduce the price of LCD Display, which has increased by more than two times in one year. There are forecasts that LCD prices will also stabilize as demand for TVs and computers decreases in the second half of the year, but rising raw materials will offset this impact.
With the rise in glass prices, sales in the second quarter of 2021 will increase by 7% YoY and 18% YoY.
